• Write Openconnect Log Message to Syslog in Linux

When an issue occurs on the very complexed ssl vpn network. You might waste much effort to trouble shoot what is going on to the system to find the root cause. The log file is the most important thing for your investigation and surely safe most of your energy. Openconnect also provides the --syslog option for you to write the vpn connection to /var/log/syslog. Please see the example command below:

    echo $PASSWORD | sudo openconnect -b -s /etc/vpnc-script --syslog --passwd-on-stdin -u $USERNAME $VPNGATEWAY

The option that allows this is "--syslog" on openconnect v2.25

  • Openconnect with Password from Standard Input

We have been using openconnect to establish a SSL VPN session for Cisco AnyConnect VPN on a Ubuntu machine. One technique that we use to avoid a user to enter a password every time is to have a script that passes the password to openconnect. Here is the command:

    echo $PASSWORD | sudo openconnect -b -s /etc/vpnc-script --passwd-on-stdin -u $USERNAME $VPNGATEWAY

The option that allows this is "--passwd-on-stdin" on openconnect v2.25
